What is Health Coaching?

So What’s the Problem Then?

It’s certainly not a lack of knowledge.

Health coaching is about figuring out what’s getting in the way, and a lot of times it’s not what you think it is.

With Health Coaching we identify the obstacles preventing you from cultivating a healthy lifestyle, living well, and, ultimately, feeling happier about your health and wellness.

We look into four key factors:


Let’s face it, there’s a lot of things we are not motivated to do and, yet, we do them anyway.

When was the last time you said..

“I’m just so motivated to wash the dishes!”

My point exactly.

So part of motivation is understanding how to get ourselves to do things we want to, but can’t always seem to get ourselves “motivated” to do it.

With Health Coaching you will learn a host of strategies to help you overcome a lack of moxie.  You will also learn which strategies are the most useful to employ given the specific behavior(s) your are trying to develop.

Understanding how to use motivation, as well as how to be productive when “it” just doesn’t seem to be there, will help you make leaps and bounds toward your health and wellness goals.

Skill Development

When it comes to making changes last, you are going to have to develop some new skills.  There’s no question about it.

Some of which include:

  • Dealing with set backs
  • Critical thinking
  • Behavior problem solving
  • Implementing healthy foods
  • Navigating social occasions

Most nutrition coaches and personal trainers don’t talk about these concepts, but they are VITAL if you are going to make the changes you want to make, last for the long haul.

It’s not just about saying “no” to that piece of cake, and instead, grabbing a handful of carrots. It’s a little more complicated than that. And I think it’s time to start being honest about the every day, in the moment, real life problems we are facing.

Environmental Design

If haven’t heard by now, our environment plays a big role in our decision making process.

Luckily, a lot of the time, we have some control over these areas.

The best decisions are the ones we don’t have to make.

This statement holds true when it comes to designing our environment to support our success.

Our environment can help us reduce the amount of will power we expend, by limiting our choices to those which aid our growth and cultivate productive behavior.

With Health Coaching I will teach you how to design your environment to set yourself up for success.

Social Support

No one ever got to the top without the help of another.

If you are going to be successful, similar to how we will design our environment to set us up for success, we need to cultivate relationships that, also, help us reach our goals.

Friends, family, communities, and groups, can help us stay accountable as well as help us celebrate our triumphs, and work through our set backs.

The people we surround ourselves with also have big impact on the choices we make.  So we want to make sure that we surround ourselves with people that have our best interest in mind.
